MAY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for May 2018:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 5,960 head (or 0.9%) for the month ending May 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 50,230 head (or 8.4%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter increased by 930 head (or 2.7%) for the month ending May 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 5,150 head (or 17.1%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter increased by 44,350 head (or 5.9%) for the month ending May 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 201,850 head (or 33.7%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 33,770 head (or 1.7%) for the month ending May 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 230,650 head (or 12.7%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter increased by 1,130 head (or 0.2%) for the month ending May 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 15,850 head (or 3.6%) year-on-year.
